Ratapalooza 2014 Show Results!

Posted on June 3, 2014 at 1:25 PM

I'm so happy that I was able to attend this show after not being able to last year. I missed seeing all my Seattle rat friends and getting to meet new WA adopters. The rats really missed being able to snuggle their Northern neighbors as well. Needless to say we were all extremely happy to be able to see everyone this year :) Oh, I guess I should also mention that the rats showed wonderfully and TOPI Pak-Ou brought home our third 100% (perfect score) in the last 4 years!!

Rat-A-Rama Show 2013

Posted on June 3, 2014 at 1:00 PM

This show was small, personable, and a lot of fun! It was out in Boise, ID, and while the drive was a pain, it was very worth it! The rats didn't do as well in the show as I had hoped, but I'm still very proud of all of them, it didn't impact them any and they had a great time dispensing kisses and snuggles to the Boise public :)

This was a wonderful show! Since this show is local to Oregon I was able to meet a ton of awesome new adopters and the rats were able to strut their stuff for their local fans :)

Only 6 TOPI rats were shown at this event and 1 did not place in his class (kitten).

Come Fall for Rats 2011 Show Results

Posted on November 15, 2011 at 10:20 PM

What a fun show! It was a rush and I was a zombie after having driven 9 hours back from Cali to make the event, but it was so much fun to see all the regular rat peeps and get to meet many new ones. All the babies I brought were either pre-adopted or already had a couple of people interested in them so they were all able to go to their new homes, which was very exciting as it always is. The show rats did so well during prep, but little Aladar, my Russian champagne boy, didn't have such a good time once we got there. His pink eyes and poor eye sight did him no favors and he was very nervous, so I ended up not showing him and just let him relax with his buddies. Poor guy :( Everyone else did so very very well though. Rat Ballou won over many a person from the minute he entered health check to the moment I packed him and his buds up and sent them to their post show quarantine home with Kimber where he is still breaking hearts left and right with his incredibly kissable tummy. David Bowie of course did wonderfully too, even though his luxurious coat and it's color are starting to show his age, and Mr. Nigel Murray was a big hit with his scandalous little blaze covering the area his burmese points should be :P

Now on to show results!

TOPI Rat Ballou - Black eyed himilayen velveteen dumbo - Best of Show and Best of Variety (solid adult) - 102/105 points possible (97%), Faulted -1 curling on the edge of the left ear, -1 not correct color tone or intensity on the points, and -1 for spots of no wave in his coat.

TOPI David Bowie - Platinum agouti blazed berkshire rex odd-eye - Reserve of Show and Best of Variety (marked adult) - 110/113 points possible (97%), Faulted -1 dull/aged coat color, -1 not correct coat color intensity, and -1 marking extends past expected area on left side.

TOPI Expecto Patronum - Albino Velveteen - Best of Variety (solid kitten) - 100/105 points possible (95%), Faulted -2 body too short, -1 blocky tail, -1 eyes slightly small, and -1 lack of wave to whiskers.

TOPI Kleicha - Russian blue agouti bareback - Best of Variety - 102/105 points possible (97%), Faulted -1 body too short, -1 blocky tail, and -1 small additional marking.

Dmtn Calamity Jane TOPI - Mink English Irish dumbo dwarf - Best of Variety (dwarf) - 105/110 points possible (95%), Faulted -1 blocky tail, -2 uneven color, and -2 mark far too small.

TOPI Gothorita - Black variegated - Blue Ribbon - 102/105 points possible (97%), Faulted -1 narrow shoulders, -1 blocky tail, and -1 markings (cape) not symmetrical.

TOPI Tigress - Agouti hooded downunder velveteen - Red Ribbon - 102/110 points possible (93%), Faulted -2 body too short, -2 ear placement too narrow at crown, -2 additional markings on top hood, and -2 overall lack of wave or curl to coat.

SITH Ultima TOPI - Russian blue burmese dumbo - Blue Ribbon - 98/100 points possible (98%), Faulted -1 blocky tail, and -1 slightly small eyes.

JOY Lucas TOPI - Odd-eye white dumbo (from dalmatian lines and judged as a Black Eyed White) 90/100 points possible (90%), Faulted -1 body too short, -1 blocky tail, and -8 colored hairs on white rat (behind right ear).

I also showed TOPI Chilean Rose - Australian Cinnamon Irish dumbo, TOPI Peanut Wigglebutt - Himilayen based burmese dumbo, TOPI Mr. Nigel Murray - Russian blue wheaten burmese dumbo (blazed berkshire), and TOPI Togekiss - Russian cinnamon variegated velveteen in the unstandardized class in an effor to get their colors standardized. All that's needed now is for the club to vote on the colors and proposed associated standards at our next meeting and those colors will be standardized :)

Come Fall for Rats & SURVIVORS

Posted on October 16, 2011 at 8:15 PM

Wow, it's been a while since I've updated this! I guess I should start with the show information...

Come Fall for Rats will be at the Washington County Fairground in the Cloverleaf Building. The physical address is:

873 NE 34th Ave, Hillsboro OR 97124

The show will start at 11:00am and end around 5:00pm. Follow this link for more information about admission and the show : http://ratspacnw.org/events/comefallforrats/

I plan on showing quite a few rats this go round as I will be showing a few that are currently unstandardized to start the process of getting them standardized, so that's fun! Mostly though I will have babies available for adoption there which is not something I do very often. I will go in to more below, but before I do please note that if you are interested in adopting babies at the show you will need to fill out an adoption application located on the Adoption Info. page on here and be approved for adoption PRIOR to the show. If I don't have an adoption app. on file for you you will not be able to adopt from me at the show. This is just so that I can make sure all of my babies are going to pre-screened and hopefully appropriate homes :)

This is a unique opportunity for anyone seeking to adopt as you will be able to meet the babies before choosing who to adopt, which is not the norm since I run a closed rattery for the rats health and welfare. Since I will be showing though and have a post show quarentine home lined up to take all the rats that went to the show in for three weeks after the show I feel ok bringing the babies along as well so that people can meet them. Again though, you will need to be approved prior to the show in order to meet the babies and adopt.

Ok, now on to who I'm bring for adoption and why:

I will be bringing babies from the SURVIVOR litter, who were rescue/surrenders from a couple who had adopted from me and decided that since they were now dating their 3 month old rats should too. Luckily, and I say that with sarcasm, only one of the girls ended up being pregnant and I know from the couple which boy was the father, so in some way that's good only because then I have information on them and what their line is like. The babies are all marked mink dumbo's and are very cute. Once I get my camera to work I will post pictures on a litter page for them on here so that if you are interested you can see them. Their parents are on the Past Litters page under the Alaskan Litter. They are TOPI Denali and TOPI Gustavus, if you are interesred and would like to see them.

I will also have 3 boys and 3 girls available from a couple of adoption returns due to allergies and a change in college rules. Their ages range from 3 months to 5 months and they are all wonderfully squishy little things.  Again, once my camera is operational I will get pictures posted of them, if you are interested though I can give you more individual details :) Some of their pictures are already on here and if you would like I can direct you to them. Just let me know :)

Ok, so I think that about covers it for any updates. Hopefully I will see a lot of you at the show!

Ratapalooza 2011!!

Posted on April 11, 2011 at 8:01 PM

It was sooo much fun!! I got to see all my favorite rat people and the rats did very well in the show :D

For show results we have ;

TOPI David Bowie - Best in Show and Variety for rex, so he now carries the Grand Champion title, and scored 109/110 possible points

TOPI Fondue - Best of Variety for double rex, scored 106/110 possible points

TOPI Mikado White - Best of Section for marked kitten, scored 99/105 possible points

Those that didn't place are;

TOPI Hullabaloo who got 106/110 possible points and was beat by a spritely little agouti dumbo dwarf doe

and

TOPI Hikari who got 105/110 possible points and was beat by a cute little top eared hairless doe :)

All and all I'm very very proud of how my rats did and we look forward to the next show! I'll also be attending Rat Camp this September and going to judges training. So hopefully come the next show I can actually be of some help with judging the classes my rats aren't in :)

Uber Babies

Posted on February 12, 2011 at 3:59 PM

You know, it's moments like these that I remember why I became a breeder in the first place. Love.

I am currently in my bedroom where the babies and moms reside, surrounded by babies who are nomming on veggies and noodles and causing quite a racket. I'm watching them play, develop ratty behaviors, learn social structures, explore limits, and it just makes me realize how very special rats are. For me, having no children and not being able to have them in the future, this is like watching my kids grow up, go to school, and then go out in to the world to prove themselves as individuals once they go home with their new owners. Knowing that these kids are all just waiting to go home with their new families adds so much comfort to the situation, it's truly fantastic <3

I'm getting to be with these babies almost 24/7, with the only exception being the few hours that I leave for work each day. Those are daytime hours though so the babies are normally asleep and I don't feel like either of us is really missing anything  ;) . I've been having trouble with my back and stomach lately so I am awake most of the night and I am really enjoying playing with the babies at night as well. They are so darn hyper at night but man do they love their kisses. I haven't had a baby yet turn down some mid run and pounce kisses to the head :p.

I can't wait till all of you have your babies and get to enjoy them like I have :) .

On a different note, Angelica had her babies yesterday and she as well as all of her babies (there are a lot!) are doing well. Because there are so many I am currently re-opening the wait list for anyone who is interested in adopting. To everyone currently on it, the babies are looking amazing and mom is doing so well with them. She is immensely attentive and is making sure they are all fed and cleaned routinely through out the day. I'm sure these kids will be amazing just like their parents :D .

Privy and Puff

Posted on December 31, 2010 at 11:12 AM

Privy had 12 babies yesterday afternoon and they are all doing wonderfully. She had a very easy delivery with one baby after another coming out with out much straining on her part and she was able to clean every one of them before the next one came. She is doing a wonderful job! When I went in to check on them first thing this morning everyone was fed and she was ready for her breakfast. I am very very proud of my little girl <3

Puff, on the other hand, does not appear to be pregnant. Again, I think her early weight gain can be contributed to the diet change as she has leveled out at 373 grams and does not seem to be moving from there. She could still surprise us all and have babies as late as the 5th, but I really doubt it. If there are no babies and she continues to be healthy and robust I will pair her again with Suite or maybe try Sonic the next go round. Either way it will be at least a month before I let her try again.

Because Privy had 12 babies and I only reserved slots on the wait list for 8 babies, I will need at least one more adopter, if not two. If anyone is interested in switching from a later wait list to this one so that you can get babies sooner that is fine, just email me and let me know so I can move things around. If you are a new adopter and are interested on getting on the wait list for this litter please fill out my adoption application located on my Adoption Info page. Hopefully we will see a few down under bellies and some nice hoods in this litter : )

I hope that everyone has a wonderful New Year and a great weekend!
